An Elegia
The wind stopped blowing,
Her hair stopped flowing,
The eyes had dried up.
She looked straight on...straight!
I could not read her eyes
A voice echoed inside me
'This is the woman' it said
'The enchantress the princess of your heart'
But she spoke no word
The loquacity of her silence screamed.
They mixed, her silence and the voice inside me,
And perturbed the little peace that was left in me!
Sometimes I wonder
Why I was apathetic to the brewing philter,
That swept to my veins and intoxicated my mind?
Why did I not answer that call?
The call for embrace,
The call for the exodus of souls
The call to take her away
The call of the semantic silence...
How could I?
Didn't she know the soldier had no free mind?
I don't know when
The apathy of my job
Crawled inside and doused-
-my burning romanticism.
I do not know why the reality
Never...never reminds you of your surreal passions
Although you want to hold on to them
Till seconds melt into minutes
And minutes melt into hours...
But hopeful times freeze
The frozen time made me turn around
The blood flew out from her wound
And painted the white roses,
Those lay beside her,
The ones that I had brought for her.
The now red roses looked at me and
Asked me to preserve
Their evanescent lives
And made their way between me fingers.
The other hand moved and went to her face
And closed her eyes
The lifeless eyelids succumbed
To my inhuman brutality.
And then it was all over
I closed my chapter of love
The love that, my soldier-heart, fell in
I closed my eyes in deep realization
A soldier had no right to fall in love
Not at least in love with a woman
Who belonged to the nation that
He fought against.

Insecable
The sun beat down to burn the earth,
And out of nowhere it started to rain.
I was in the middle of the road and-
I looked upwards and opened my mouth
And sipped in a drop or two.
I felt like loving and I looked around for love
But she wasn't around,
Ignorance ruled everywhere,
Vanity screamed from distance
And repulsion encumbered me
And then suddenly I found you
Hatred hovered around you,
So did sadness and indifference.
Yet you were so nonchalant;
That is what I liked about you.
That was when I decided,
If love was busy I would be with you.
And we still are...aren't we?
Love has tried, so has hatred
But our bond is too strong...
Isn't it..oh solitude?

Physiognomy
Her eyes met his and looked downwards
He caught her chin and slowly angled it upwards
Until their eyes met again
Still silent no words…
He wanted to…
He moved his hands to do so…
But she caught him
And shook her head
He put his hand away
She caught his hand
And took him to a mirror and asked him to look…
‘Look at that face!’ she said
And pointed towards a face
A face he could not see
A face she could see,
The face she described as,
‘Burnt, devoid of lips, with two holes
Serving as nostrils, no eyelashes, and ugly’
He looked on, searched the mirror all over
But found none,
He turned away from the image and
Looked at the live face
And noticed pearls dripping
He extended his hands and caught them
And closed his palms.
He held her face between them now
And looked hard
‘Where are the burns?’ He thought.
Again the eyes meet
She sees her face in his eyes
And looked hard
And wondered, “Where are the burns?”
Is that really me?
Do I really look so beautiful?
She understood and closed her eyes
And embraced her man
Yes, he is her man!Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Gathering food
And, the way they walked
Was what captivated her senses!
She watched them drink
And she heard them sing
She dived in…took her breath…
And up she came again
(Another glance)
The way they laughed
The way they joked
Was what captivated her senses!
She watched them untie
And she watched them tie
She dived in…took her breath…
And up she came again
(Another glance)
The way the sat
And the way the looked
Was what gave her the idea
She watched them pack,
Food on the tip and the back
She dived in…took her breath
And remained
She watched them rise
She watched them yawn
She watched them cry
She watched them smile
She watched crawl
And she watched them fin…
One, two, three, …, twenty
That’s all that remained
She took her breath…
And up she went
(A new glance)
She watched it rise
She watched it sink…
White was all it was!
She swam to the mark
And she watched it swing
She dived in…took her breath…
And remained
Just one piercing near the lip
And a little luck
She closed her eyes
And hoped to live
She watched the food…
At the tip and the back…
She took another breath
And remained
She shook it a bit
And tore off the food…
It was easy at the back
Off she went with the pack of food
And delivered…
One, two, three…ten
Ten remained
She took some breath
And went ahead
She shook it a bit
Couldn’t tear off the food
Risking her lip she tried to push
The morsel wouldn’t rise…
She now tried to pull…
And off came of the food…
She tried to swim
But she flew high up
She held on to her breath
And remained…frozen!
She felt their hands on her lips
They undid the hook!
They smelled her throughout
And held her small tail
A swing of the hand
And off she went…
She grasped for breath
And breathed…
There it was
The small chunk of the food
She took it in her lips
And hoped she’d not bleed
And delivered…
She watched them eat
And took another breath
And remained.

Ocular
Unleashing the sun,
He blazed on unperturbed by the sudden loss
The moon felt amazed the sun didn’t even care
He looked at her pallid face with scorn
She conceded and bore his heat without complaining
And suddenly she was no more.
The two eyes kept wandering,
From the sun and to the moon, to clouds…
It moved on…
And now to those ubiquitous, small things which come falling down
The hands came to the aid.
‘I can’t catch them, they are too small,’
The frown made its remark
‘How small!’
The eyes moved aside and fixed on the wall
‘They aren’t here anymore’
Bewilderment pushed aside despair
Back to the window now,
‘They are falling here!’
Bewilderment egged more…
But no one answered.
The glass…ah the water now…no
‘What are those colours?
One, two, three, four five six, seven…eight?
Eight colurs? Why? Eight, alright? No seven!!
What’s the ant doing here now?
Look at it’s tip…black, orange body…funny!’
They moved again…the bewildered,
The pup sat cuddled on the sand basking!
Its eyes were closed…what’s beside that?
What is that man doing with that wood?
That wood is funny…the man held it underneath his arms
‘Oh he can’t walk!’
The eyes closed and the head turned around
Sound of wood again…the eyes opened,
The door opened…mummy!
Frown swayed, bewilderment followed and vanishedThe eyes closed down…yet they saw!
The floaters inside our mind
Leaving me full of their thoughts
Thoughts both heavy and light
And sad and bright!
They know not how evanescent
Some of them are!
The heaviest of them never leave you;
And bring tears in your eyes
Of both joy and happiness!
That’s how they are-
As strange as mirrors!
Showing a different thing about yourself
Every time you think about them
They do not lie
But leave things unsaid
And haunt you in the middle of the night!
Cry as you may,
Laugh as you can,
They remain…and grip you.
Even the most oblivious have them.
For they are unforgettable-
Once they have decided to set into you!
How I wish if I could have some of them removed…
Alas…not even they can remove themselves!
But even they have an end and will pass away
When? Would I be there without them;
For even a single day?
No…they pass away only with me!
I am full of them…are you?
I have decided to love them
To walk with them…
What about you?

Untitled
your heart weighs more than your head,
Life reaches that point which
Brings tears in your eyes
Why then do you feel like going back-
to those days…the days which promised,
An unfulfilled dream?
Every breath seems heavy
Life feels like running away from itself
Alas…the heavy heart guides the mind
To memories, memories…the heaviest burden of all!
your foolish senses look for those
Familiar pairs of hands, which promise to come…
To come and wipe the tears,
To come and hold you tight and
To make you feel wanted,
To makes you love life…to make you live!
“Heart…oh you stupid thing!
Don’t take me back to memories.”
They are illusions as unpromising
As the mirage on a desert,
The lies to the truths you were once ready to face!
The answers to the questions
You dared to ask years ago!
“Oh poor old heart…Go…
Seek refuge in tears”
Tears…the companion to the sad heart,
the ever-faithful friend,
Who doesn’t leave u until sadness abates.
Then you close your eyes
to the depth and darkness of slumber
And fade into a world of oblivionOblivion the perfect placebo for deserted selves!
